Insurance for Georgia Residents
We're based in Valley, Alabama — right on the Georgia state line. We're licensed in Georgia for every line we write: auto, home, business, life, and Medicare supplement. Georgia clients work with us exactly the same way Alabama clients do — by phone, online, and through our client portal.
Georgia Coverage
We Serve Georgia. Fully.
The name says it: AL-GA Insurance. Alabama and Georgia are both in our name because both states are genuinely part of what we do.
We're located in the Chattahoochee Valley — the corridor that straddles East Alabama and West Georgia. Columbus, LaGrange, West Point, and Newnan are as natural a market for us as Valley and Auburn. But we don't stop at the state line. We write insurance for Georgia residents statewide — from Columbus to Atlanta to Savannah — by phone and online. Proximity to our office is never a requirement.
As an independent agency, we're appointed with multiple top-rated carriers in Georgia. That means when you ask us for a quote, we're comparing options across the market — not pointing you to the one company we happen to represent. For Georgia clients specifically, that carrier access matters: Georgia consistently ranks among the more expensive states for auto insurance, and having multiple carriers to shop against makes a real difference in the rate you end up with.
What We Cover in Georgia
Every Line of Coverage. One Georgia Agency.
Georgia Auto Insurance
Georgia auto insurance rates are among the highest in the country — Atlanta's traffic density, a competitive litigation environment, and above-average repair costs all drive premiums up statewide. As an independent agency, we compare rates across multiple carriers to find the most competitive option for your Georgia driving profile. We also write non-standard policies for drivers with violations, accidents, or prior lapses.
Home Insurance
Georgia homeowners face real weather exposure — tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and hurricane remnants that push inland from the coast. We write home insurance for Georgia residents through multiple top-rated carriers, making sure your coverage reflects what it actually costs to rebuild — not just what the house is worth on Zillow. We review coverage annually so it keeps pace with rising construction costs.
Renters Insurance
Whether you're renting in Atlanta, Columbus, or a smaller Georgia community, your landlord's policy covers the building — not what's inside your apartment. Renters insurance covers your belongings, your personal liability, and your living expenses if a covered event forces you out. Most Georgia renters insurance policies cost $15–20 per month. It's one of the most overlooked and most affordable coverages we write.
Business Insurance
Georgia requires workers comp for employers with three or more employees — a lower threshold than Alabama. Whether you run a small shop in Columbus, a service business in LaGrange, or a contractor operation anywhere in the state, we write general liability, commercial property, commercial auto, and workers comp for Georgia businesses of all types and sizes.
Life Insurance
Life insurance premiums are based on age and health — which means the policy available to you today is almost certainly better than the one you'll be offered in a few years. We write term, whole, and universal life insurance for Georgia residents through multiple carriers. For many clients, we can place coverage with day-one protection — no medical exam required and no waiting period before the policy takes effect.
Medicare Supplement Insurance
Rural Georgia — West Georgia in particular — has limited Medicare Advantage networks. For Georgia residents in communities where Advantage plan provider access is thin, Original Medicare with a supplement plan is often the more practical option. All Medicare supplement plans are standardized by the federal government, so the only variable between carriers is the premium. We compare carriers and explain which ones have the strongest rate increase history before making a recommendation.
The Independent Advantage
Georgia Is One of the Most Expensive Insurance Markets in the Country. That Makes Carrier Access More Important Here.
Georgia consistently ranks among the top ten most expensive states for auto insurance. Atlanta is one of the most congested metro areas in the country. The state has an active litigation environment that affects carrier pricing. And if you live outside a metro area, you may be paying rates calibrated to risks you don't actually carry.
A captive agent — one tied to a single company — can only quote you that company's rate. If their pricing for your Georgia zip code, your vehicle, or your driving history is high, you have no recourse. You either pay it or start shopping on your own.
We represent multiple carriers licensed in Georgia.
When you ask us for a quote, we compare what's available across our carrier panel and bring you the most competitive rate we can find for your specific profile. For Georgia clients — especially Georgia auto clients — that comparison consistently produces better results than going to a single carrier directly.
The same logic applies to home insurance, business coverage, and life insurance. More options mean more chances to find the right fit at the right price
Georgia Insurance Notes
A Few Things Georgia Residents Should Know
Georgia auto insurance minimums
Georgia requires 25/50/25 liability coverage — $25,000 per person for bodily injury, $50,000 per accident, and $25,000 for property damage. Georgia also requires uninsured motorist coverage at the same limits unless you explicitly reject it in writing. That's a meaningful distinction from many other states: UM/UIM coverage is opt-out in Georgia, not opt-in.
Georgia workers comp
Georgia requires workers compensation insurance for employers with three or more employees — a lower threshold than Alabama's five (four in construction). If you have three people on your Georgia payroll, you're required to carry it. We write workers comp for small Georgia businesses and can help you understand how your industry classification and claims history affect your rate.
Medicare supplement in West Georgia
Rural West Georgia counties have limited Medicare Advantage provider networks. For residents of Troup, Harris, Talbot, and surrounding counties, a Medicare supplement plan offers access to any provider in the country who accepts Medicare — no network restrictions, no referrals, no prior authorizations. We help Georgia Medicare clients understand this trade-off before making a decision.
Georgia homeowners and weather exposure
Georgia sits in a zone of significant weather risk — including tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and the inland remnants of Gulf and Atlantic hurricanes. Georgia homeowners should review their policy for wind and hail coverage, flood exclusions (flood is never covered by a standard homeowners policy), and whether their dwelling limit reflects current replacement costs. We review all of this as part of every homeowners quote.

Georgia Insurance Questions
What Georgia Clients Ask Us
Do you write insurance for Georgia residents?
Yes — fully. We are licensed in Georgia for all lines we offer: auto, home, renters, boat and RV, general liability, commercial property, commercial auto, workers comp, life insurance, and Medicare supplement. We serve Georgia clients statewide by phone and online. You do not need to visit our Alabama office. Most of our Georgia relationships are handled entirely remotely through by phone, online, and through our client portal.
Why is car insurance so expensive in Georgia?
Georgia consistently ranks among the most expensive states for auto insurance nationally. Several factors drive this: Atlanta is one of the most congested metro areas in the country, which increases accident frequency; Georgia has an active litigation environment that increases carrier claims costs; vehicle repair and medical costs have risen significantly in recent years; and Georgia's urban and suburban density means more exposure per mile driven. As an independent agency, we compare rates across multiple Georgia-licensed carriers — which typically produces a better outcome than going to a single carrier directly, especially in a high-cost market.
What are Georgia's minimum car insurance requirements?
Georgia requires liability coverage of 25/50/25 — $25,000 per person for bodily injury, $50,000 per accident for bodily injury, and $25,000 for property damage. Georgia also requires uninsured motorist coverage at those same limits, which you must explicitly reject in writing if you choose not to carry it. Most drivers keep the UM/UIM coverage — given Georgia's traffic volume and accident rates, it's meaningful protection.
Does Georgia require workers compensation insurance?
Yes. Georgia requires workers compensation coverage for employers with three or more employees — including part-time and seasonal workers in most cases. This is a lower threshold than Alabama, which requires it at five employees (four in construction). If you have three or more people on your Georgia payroll, you are required to carry it. We write workers comp for small Georgia businesses and can help you understand how your payroll, industry classification, and claims history affect your premium.
Is Medicare Advantage a good option in rural Georgia?
It depends on where in Georgia you are. In Atlanta and other large metro areas, Medicare Advantage networks are broad and coverage is generally accessible. In rural West Georgia — Troup, Harris, Talbot, Meriwether, and surrounding counties — Medicare Advantage networks are often limited, which means fewer in-network providers, more referral requirements, and in some cases, longer distances to covered care. For clients in those areas, Original Medicare with a supplement plan often provides meaningfully better access. We serve Medicare-eligible clients across Georgia and help them compare both options before making a decision.
